Wireless Weighing System

There are many types of weighing systems available in today’s market. But if you’re looking for a wireless weighing system capable of accurately weighing heavy loads in an industrial setting, look no further than Eilon Engineering. With five decades of experience, we are a globally recognized leader in the development and manufacturing of high-quality crane scales, dynamometers, and load cells.

What is a wireless weighing system?

A wireless weighing system is a piece of industrial equipment used to measure weight or force wirelessly via radio frequency communication. These systems usually feature real-time data transmission between the scale and the receiver, for fast and accurate weighing.

These systems usually consist of a load cell body to measure the load and a wireless indicator to receive and display the data. In the case of a crane scale, the system will have an upper shackle and a lower hook, while a dynamometer has both upper and lower shackles.

But not all weighing systems use radio frequency. In fact, wired systems are still quite common. However, in many applications, a wireless weighing system will give operators several advantages.

Benefits of wireless weighing systems

Though a wireless crane scale may cost more than an equivalent wired system, the benefits generally outweigh the initial cost difference, making a wireless system a better investment. However, this does depend on the intended application, i.e. how one intends to use the system—for some applications a wired system will be the better choice.

Here are some widely recognized benefits of a wireless weighing system.

Accuracy

In the high-stakes world of industrial lifting and weighing, accuracy goes beyond simply getting the right number—it's a critical factor for safety, finances, legal compliance, and more.

Safety

A wireless system also allows operators to monitor the loads from a safe distance. For example, our Ron 2501 model crane scale can transmit measurements from the load cell body to the handheld display at a safe distance of up to 150 meters (in prime outdoor conditions with a clear line of sight).

Further, having no cable eliminates the risk of accidents, which can occur should the cable become entangled.

Flexibility

Since the system isn’t restricted by wires or cables, operators have more maneuverability during weighing. This also makes installation easier since there’s no need to run cables. The quicker installation also saves valuable time, which can equate to many man-hours. This means a wireless system can be more cost-effective in the long run, depending on usage.

Also, since the system broadcasts the signal around the job site, multiple displays or receivers can be used with a single system. This allows for multiple team members to easily and safely access the measurement data.

Mobility

Wireless crane scales offer increased mobility in that they can be moved between locations on site without the hassle of unplugging and replugging the device back in. This makes them much more effective in changing work environments or transporting them to other places on the job site.

Wireless weighing systems: industries and uses

Because of their advanced scale technology, wireless weighing systems, including crane scales, load cells, and dynamometers, have found use in a wide variety of sectors, industries, and applications.

Here are just a few examples.

Logistics and warehouse management

Crane scales and other wireless weighing systems offer several advantages in logistics and warehouse management by streamlining processes and improving efficiency. And, because of their ability for real-time data transmission, crane scales give warehouse managers better control over inventory levels. This allows for optimized stock management and reduced instances of over or under-stocking.

Load testing

High-quality portable weighing systems are often used for load testing, ensuring that cranes and other lifting equipment can safely handle their specified loads. This is essential for compliance with safety regulations and standards.

Material Handling

When lifting heavy materials or equipment, a crane scale can provide real-time measurements of the applied force. This lets operators ensure that the load remains within the crane’s safe working limits, which is crucial for safety.

Tension monitoring

In applications that call for maintaining a specific tension, such as in cable or wire installation, a portable weighing system can be used to monitor and control the tension in real-time.

Safety checks

To guarantee safety on construction sites and in industrial settings, routine inspections with a portable weighing system are crucial. These checks help identify any problems with the crane's lifting capacity or potential damage to the lifting gear, preventing accidents.

Overload prevention

Crane scales are essential for preventing accidents caused by overloads. The real-time data transmission allows operators to stay within safe lifting limits. With overload alarms and the ability to inform lifting decisions, crane scales help promote safe practices and can prevent catastrophic crane failures.

Shipping and rigging

Streamlining logistics and rigging, wireless crane scales guarantee loads meet weight limits for trucks and ships while verifying the lifting equipment functions properly.
